U.S. set for fourth year of $1 trillion-plus deficit: CBO
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is headed for a fourth straight year with a $1 trillion-plus budget deficit, congressional forecasters said on Tuesday, giving Republicans ammunition to hammer President Barack Obama's spending record in November's elections.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office said the fiscal 2012 deficit would rise to $1.079 trillion from its previous estimate of $973 billion made last August. If Congress extends payroll tax cuts through year-end, as expected, the deficit would likely rise by another $100 billion through December..more here
Trade Deficits Threaten U.S. Sovereignty
When a country runs a trade deficit, it must either borrow money or sell assets to pay for its goods. After running massive trade deficits since 1975, America is increasingly being bought out by foreign interests. Foreign interests now own around half of all publicly traded Treasury securities, roughly 25 percent of American corporate bonds and roughly 12 percent of American corporate stock. Net foreign ownership of American assets is now $2.7 trillion. According to economist William Bahr of the Economic Strategy Institute, deficits since 1991 alone have created an economic hole larger than the entire Canadian economy. This is a hole that has been plugged by selling away wealth producing companies, infrastructure and government debt.
In 2006, the story of the United Arab Emirates attempting to buy several American ports made big headlines. However, that was only one isolated example of a much larger trend that threatens to destroy our sovereignty.
While we have military to protect our national security from physical threats, America has long been remiss in doing nothing to stop economic threats. Nominally, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is supposed to stop these foreign purchases, but it almost never does.
In 2010, our trade deficit was greater than $630 billion. America literally cannot afford to run massive trade deficits of these numbers. How long before huge sectors of the country are no longer American owned? The U.S. businesses remaining to employ the American people are dwindling at a rapid rate.
“Free trade” is sapping the strength of this nation, and must be brought to a halt if we are to properly recover. We must end or amend terrible agreements such as NAFTA and the WTO. We must work to prevent the passage of other disastrous pacts such as the KORUS FTA, and trade deals with Panama and Colombia. Economy in Crisis

The Senate last night codified into law the power of the U.S. military to indefinitely detain an American citizen with no charge, no trial and no oversight whatsoever with the passage of S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act.
As Spencer Ackerman highlights, the bill completely violates the sixth amendmentin that it allows American citizens to be locked up indefinitely, including in a foreign detention center, without any burden of proof whatsoever. General Electric is planning to move its 115-year-old X-ray division from Waukesha , Wis. , to Beijing . In addition to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in China and train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is the same GE that made $5.1 billion in the United States last year. but paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it does in the united States . So let me get this straight. President Obama appointed GE Chairman Jeff Immelt to head his commission on job creation (job czar). Immelt is supposed to help create jobs. I guess the President forgot to tell him in which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs. If this doesn't show you the total lack of leadership of this President, I don't know what does. Please pass this information to others and think about it before you buy a GE product.

Washington’s Self-Anointed Deities
A populace that expects salvation from the government has some representatives believing they are saviors.
When this country was founded, citizens largely looked to God, their families, or themselves for help or comfort. Now, many Americans have stopped looking towards the traditional resources, and instead look more and more to government. Thereby, in a mutually dysfunctional relationship, government becomes their god.
When they are without money, they cry out to the government to take care of them. If there is a problem in areas like the public school system or health care, they look to the government for the answer. They expect the government to fix all areas of life that pose some discomfort. No matter what ails them, government is the cure.
When citizens endlessly extend their hands to the government to bestow blessings and riches upon them, a government god complex is inevitable. If citizens continually look to our representatives for salvation, representatives start believing they are our saviors.
