Panetta: Patience with Pakistan 'reaching limits'
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Thursday pressured Pakistan to do more to root out the al-Qaida-linked Haqqani terrorist network, saying American officials are "reaching the limits of our patience."
At a news conference in neighboring Afghanistan, Panetta repeatedly emphasized U.S. frustration with attackers crossing the border from Pakistan. It's essential that Pakistan stop "allowing terrorists to use their country as a safety net in order to conduct their attacks on our forces," he said alongside Afghan Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak.
"We have made that very clear time and time again and we will continue to do that, but as I said, we are reaching the limits of our patience," Panetta said.
Panetta's explicit and repeated criticism of Pakistan's inaction, which he also voiced in his visit to India, appeared to signal a somewhat tougher stance and a suggestion that the U.S. is becoming even more willing and quick to strike terrorist targets inside Pakistan. A senior U.S. official acknowledged Thursday that the recent increase in drone strikes on insurgents in Pakistan is due in part to frustration with Islamabad. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive operations.
The Haqqani group has been blamed for several attacks on Americans in Afghanistan, including last year' assault against the U.S. Embassy and NATO headquarters with rocket-propelled grenades. The group, which also has ties to the Taliban, has emerged as perhaps the biggest threat to stability in Afghanistan.
U.S. lawmakers from both parties have been urging the State Department to designate the Haqqani network a foreign terrorist organization.
The United States has given Pakistan billions of dollars in aid for its support in fighting Islamist militants. Despite pressure from the U.S., Pakistan has remained reluctant to go after insurgents, particularly the Haqqani network.
"It is an increasing concern that the safe haven exists and that there are those — likely Haqqanis — who are making use of that to attack our forces," Panetta said in his second day of blunt criticism of Pakistan.
For more than three decades the Haqqani network, led by the elderly Jalaluddin Haqqani, has maintained headquarters in Pakistan's Miran Shah district of North Waziristan. Pakistan has denied aiding the Haqqanis, and the Pakistani military has refused to carry out an offensive in the North Waziristan tribal region, saying it would unleash a tribal-wide war that Pakistan could not contain.
Panetta said the U.S. continues to see Haqqani fighters moving from Pakistan into Afghanistan to attack American forces — most recently on June 1 when he said they detonated a truck bomb and then tried to storm Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost province. Some U.S. service members were wounded in the attack, which was repelled by coalition forces. Fourteen heavily armed militants were killed.
Panetta called it "an intolerable situation."
The Afghan defense minister also said that Pakistan could do more, saying the Pakistanis are in a better position to provide intelligence or take law enforcement or military actions.
"I do hope that gradually they will come to the conclusion to cooperate with us," Wardak said. "If that cooperation starts, we will be able to disrupt their command and control, disrupt their training, disrupt their weapon recruitment and also will be able to eliminate or capture their leadership."
"Without doing that, I think our endeavor to achieve victory will become much more difficult," he said.
Panetta arrived in Afghanistan on Thursday to take stock of progress in the war and discuss plans for the troop drawdown, even as violence spiked in the south.
Making his fourth trip to the war zone as defense secretary, Panetta acknowledged the increase in attacks and that the insurgents appear to be much more organized. But he insisted that the overall level of violence was down.
Panetta said he wants to get an assessment of the situation from the top U.S. commander, Marine Gen. John Allen, and see how confident he is about NATO's ability to confront the threats both from the Taliban and the Haqqani network.
"I think it's important to make sure we are aware of the kind of attacks they're going to engage in ... as we go through the rest of the summer," Panetta told reporters traveling with him during a stop in New Delhi, India, on Wednesday.
Panetta spoke to troops gathered at the airport in Kabul just a day after three suicide attackers blew themselves up in a marketplace in southern Afghanistan, killing 22 people and wounding at least 50 others. In the east, meanwhile, Afghan officials and residents said a pre-dawn NATO airstrike targeting militants killed civilians celebrating a wedding, including women and children. A NATO forces spokesman said the coalition had no reports of civilians being killed in a raid, but was investigating the allegations of civilian casualties.
Allen has to withdraw 23,000 American troops by the end of September, leaving about 68,000 U.S. military personnel in the country. Once the 23,000 U.S. troops depart, Allen is expected to review how the fighting season is going and then will begin to put together an analysis for President Barack Obama on how troop withdrawals will proceed next year.
The defense secretary joked with the troops in Kabul about the U.S. strike that killed an al-Qaida leader Monday, saying, "the worst job you can get these days is to be a deputy leader in al-Qaida, or for that matter a leader."

Clinton tells Assad to quit, leave country
By Arshad Mohammed
ISTANBUL | Thu Jun 7, 2012 8:16am EDT
(Reuters) - The Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday to hand over power and leave his country, condemning a massacre near the town of Hama that opponents have blamed on his supporters as "unconscionable".
Clinton said the United States was willing to work with all members of the U.N. Security Council, which includes Russia, on a conference on Syria's political future as long as it started with the premise that Assad gave way to a democratic government.
"Assad must transfer power and depart Syria," Clinton told a news conference in Istanbul after meeting foreign ministers from Arab and Western nations to discuss counterterrorism.
"The regime-sponsored violence that we witnessed again in Hama yesterday is simply unconscionable. Assad has doubled down on his brutality and his duplicity and Syria will not, cannot be peaceful, stable or certainly democratic until Assad goes."
United Nations observers have been prevented from reaching the village of Mazraat al-Qubeir, near Hama where anti-Assad activists say Syrian troops and militiamen loyal to the president massacred at least 78 villagers, the head of the monitoring mission said on Thursday.
The reported carnage came hours before a divided U.N. Security Council discusses Syria.
The latest killings will heap pressure on world powers to act, but they have been stymied by divisions pitting Western and most Arab states against Assad's defenders in Russia, China and Iran.
Clinton urged the international community to unite behind an "achievable" plan and said Washington was willing to cooperate with any state as long as they agreed that Assad had to cede power.
"We are prepared to work with any country, including all members of the U.N. Security Council and we will do so, so long as any such gathering starts from the basic premise that Assad and his regime must give way to a new, democratic Syria."
Clinton said she would send her special adviser on Syria to Moscow on Friday to discuss with the Russian government the need for political transition in Syria.
She suggested that peace envoy Kofi Annan's plan, whose central plank was a ceasefire that never took hold, needed to be given a last chance, saying other nations - presumably Russia and China - would not support stronger action unless its failure was incontestable.
"We think it is important for us to give Kofi Annan and his plan the last amount of support that we can muster because, in order to bring others into a frame of mind to take action in the Security Council, there has to be a final recognition that it's not working," Clinton said.
Asked about upcoming nuclear talks between Iran and Britain, France, Russia, China, the United States and Germany - otherwise known as the P5+1, in Moscow on June 18, Clinton said Tehran needed to be prepared to take "concrete steps".
"We want them to come prepared to take concrete steps, particularly in the area of 20 enrichment," Clinton said.
Iran is refining uranium to 20 percent of fissile purity - well above the level required to run nuclear power plants - for what it says will be fuel for a medical research reactor.
But Western officials are worried because the 20 percent level hurdles major technical barriers to reaching the 90 percent - or bomb-grade - threshold and they believe Iran is stockpiling more material than it needs for nuclear medicine.

A Boston-area landlady is under fire after she allegedly refused to rent out an apartment to a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, because of her anti-war political beliefs.
Boston Herald  A landlady who doubles as a peace activist has refused to let a war veteran rent her property, citing ‘conflicts of interest’, he has claimed.
Sgt. Joel Morgan, 29, said he tried to rent a two-bedroom $1,220-a-month apartment in Savin Hill, Massachusetts after looking at it in April.

But the National Guardsman, who has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo, was stunned when the property’s owner, Janice Roberts, 63, turned him away due to her staunch beliefs and his war service.

In a voicemail dated to April 9, played for the Boston Herald in the presence of the veteran’s lawyer, 63-year-old Janice Roberts reportedly said: “It just is not going to be comfortable for us without a doubt. It probably would be better for you to look for a place that is a little bit less politically active and controversial,” adding, “We are very adamant about our political beliefs.”

Sgt. Joel Morgan, who served in the National Guard, explained: “For her to do that to me, it was like a spit in the face…For what we have gone through overseas, to come home to our country and have people … discriminate against us. … It made me extremely insecure about being a soldier.”

Morgan has decided to sue Roberts, and his lawyer Joseph Sulman commented: “It’s illegal…but also just unconscionable. It’s something any American should be embarrassed about.”

A Milton native and divorced father of a 19-month-old son, Morgan said he served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2003; as well as combat tours in Iraq in 2007 and 2008; and in Afghanistan last year. Morgan said he is studying criminal justice at Quincy College and recently took the civil service exam, hoping to become a Boston firefighter.

“Almost every time I’m in uniform and I walk past a child, they salute,” Morgan said, smiling. His interaction with the landlady, he said, “didn’t take away my pride of being a soldier for the United States. I’ll hold onto that until I die.”

These Two Traps Are Absolutely Destroying The Next Generation Of Young Men In America
Clearly something has gone very, very wrong
Have you ever noticed that our young girls seem to be far ahead of our young boys and that our young women seem to be much more "together" than our young men are?  Have you ever noticed how many young American men almost seem like zombies and find even the most basic human interactions extremely awkward?  Well, this didn't happen by accident.  Researchers are finding that there are two traps in particular that are absolutely destroying the next generation of young men in America.  One is video game addiction and the other is pornography.  In the old days, the parks and ball fields of America would be flooded with young boys after school was done for the day, but now our parks and our ball fields are very quiet.  So where did all the boys go?  Well, they are all sitting at home staring into computer screens.  Yes, there are also young girls and young women that are addicted to these things, but the truth is that these addictions are far more prevalent among young men.  Unfortunately, it is not going to be easy to reverse the damage that is being done to the next generation of young men in America, and that is very frightening.
These days, most parents don't consider video game addiction to be a major crisis.  Many parents are just glad to have something that will keep their children occupied and out of their hair.
But the truth is that video game addiction is very serious.  One study discovered that 88 percent of all Americans between the ages of 8 and 18 play video games, and that approximately four times as many boys are addicted to video games as girls are.
If you are raising boys right now you probably know exactly what I am talking about.  Most boys are absolutely obsessed with video games these days.
Trust me, I know.
I was one of them.
When I was a young man I would play video games for endless hours.
I would often spend entire days playing games like Starcraft and John Madden football.
Once in a while I would stay up all night playing video games.
I was really, really good at them but the rest of my life suffered.
Not that there is anything fundamentally wrong with video games.  They can be a lot of fun, but when it becomes an addiction that can be extremely damaging.
Today, the average boy spends 13 hours every single week playing video games.
That is an astounding number.
Unfortunately, the second trap that we are going to talk about is almost certainly doing even more damage to our young men.
The Internet has improved our lives in a lot of ways, but one of the very negative things that it has done is that it has unleashed a giant flood of filth into our homes.
Our young men have more access to sexual content than ever before, and this is having some horrific consequences.
The following example comes from a recent Daily Mail article....
A boy of 12 who raped a nine-year-old girl after watching hard-core pornography online was spared jail yesterday as his lawyer warned of a generation of children growing up with a ‘skewed view’ on sex.
The schoolboy, who is now 14, told police he had raped the little girl because he wanted to ‘feel grown up’ after watching porn online.
In a disturbing case that has raised fresh concerns about the sexualisation of children, the teenager had unrestricted access to the web and was able to freely look at sexually explicit material.
Sadly, the United States is the pornography capital of the world.  An astounding 30 percent of all Internet traffic now goes to pornography websites, and the U.S. produces more pornography than any other nation has in the history of the world.
Many American men are so addicted to it that they cannot even wait to get home to look at it.  One survey discovered that 25 percent of all employees that have Internet access in America visit sex websites while they are at work.
In a recent article for CNN, psychologist Philip Zimbardo and Nikita Duncan discussed some of the consequences that this obsession with video games and pornography is having on our society....
The consequences could be dramatic: The excessive use of video games and online porn in pursuit of the next thing is creating a generation of risk-averse guys who are unable (and unwilling) to navigate the complexities and risks inherent to real-life relationships, school and employment.
Stories about this degeneration are rampant: In 2005, Seungseob Lee, a South Korean man, went into cardiac arrest after playing "StarCraft" for nearly 50 continuous hours. In 2009, MTV's "True Life" highlighted the story of a man named Adam whose wife kicked him out of their home -- they have four kids together -- because he couldn't stop watching porn.
Norwegian mass murder suspect Anders Behring Breivik reported during his trial that he prepared his mind and body for his marksman-focused shooting of 77 people by playing "World of Warcraft" for a year and then "Call of Duty" for 16 hours a day.
Zimbardo and Duncan have written a new book entitled "The Demise of Guys: Why Boys Are Struggling And What We Can Do About It" in which they present some absolutely startling research.  A recent Business Insider article summarized some of the key points from the book....
-In 2011, young men's SAT scores were the worst they had been in 40 years.
-Even Hollywood has caught on: films like Failure to Launch, Knocked Up and Jackass mock the ineptitude of this generation.
-Boys account for 70 percent of D's and F's given at school.
-Research shows guys aren't interested in being husbands, fathers or the head of the household.
-Boys are four to five times more likely than girls to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Two-thirds of students in special education programs are guys.
-The average boy spends 13 hours a week playing video games. The average girl spends 5. The average young American will spend 10,000 hours playing video games by age 21. That's twice the time it takes to earn a bachelor's degree.
-The average high school boy spends two hours watching porn every week. Men can't escape porn: 13,500 full-length commercial porn films were released in 2011, compared with 600 Hollywood films.
-Researchers claim that internet pornography is hurting young boys' ability to form meaningful romantic relationships because they objectify their partner.
-It's predicted that 60 percent of bachelor's degrees will go to women by 2016.
Are you starting to get the picture?
Clearly something has gone very, very wrong.
When these sex-obsessed boys grow up, they become sex-obsessed men.
Just check out what ABC News discovered was going on over at the SEC....

One senior attorney at SEC headquarters in Washington spent up to eight hours a day accessing Internet porn, according to the report, which has yet to be released. When he filled all the space on his government computer with pornographic images, he downloaded more to CDs and DVDs that accumulated in boxes in his offices.
An SEC accountant attempted to access porn websites 1,800 times in a two-week period and had 600 pornographic images on her computer hard drive.
Another SEC accountant used his SEC-issued computer to upload his own sexually explicit videos onto porn websites he joined.
And another SEC accountant attempted to access porn sites 16,000 times in a single month.
Those that are chosen to work at the SEC are supposed to be among our finest young men and women.
So if this kind of thing is going on over at the SEC, what is happening in the rest of society?
And just look at the U.S. Secret Service.  It made global headlines recently when it was discovered that a whole bunch of agents were consorting with prostitutes.
We are very, very messed up as a nation.
And we now have an entire generation of young men that don't know how to act like men.
In fact, we are rapidly becoming a nation of slobs that do not even have the capability of handling adult responsibilities.
Sadly, at this point young men in the 25 to 34 age bracket are nearly twice as likely to live with their parents as young women the same age are....
The number of adult children who live with their parents, especially young males, has soared since the economy started heading south. Among males age 25 to 34, 19% live with their parents today, a 5 percentage point increase from 2005, according to Census data released Thursday. Meanwhile, 10% of women in that age group live at home, up from 8% six years ago.
So what can be done to fix this?
Well, unfortunately there is not an easy solution to this problem.
How in the world are we going to convince millions upon millions of young men to spend less time playing video games and watching pornography?
Sadly, the truth is that this problem is getting a little bit worse every single day.
So we are headed for big, big trouble as a nation.
What are your thoughts on all of this?  Please feel free to post a comment with your opinion below....

A NEW TOOL FOR ISLAM TO TRY AND DECEIVE THE WORLD. THEIR LIES NEVER CEASE
By Jim Kelly
Patriot Freedom

Patriot Freedom warns this is another form of Taqiyya the muslims will use on a grand scale of deception...

Iran’s Basij Press is claiming that a version of the Gospel of Barnabas, found in 2000, will prove that Islam is the final and righteous religion and the revelation will cause the collapse worldwide of Christianity.

This Gospel is considered by the majority of academics, including Christians and some Muslims (such as Abbas el-Akkad) to be late and pseudepigraphical According to Wikipedia.

Pseudepigrapha are falsely attributed works, texts whose claimed authorship is unfounded; a work, simply, "whose real author attributed it to a figure of the past."
Patriot Freedom believe it is another form of Taqiyya

The Gospel of Barnabas is a book depicting the life of Jesus, and claiming to be by Jesus' disciple Barnabas, who in this work is one of the twelve apostles. Two manuscripts are known to have existed, both dated to the late 16th century and written respectively in Italian and in Spanish—although the Spanish manuscript is now lost, its text surviving only in a partial 18th-century transcript. Barnabas is about the same length as the four Canonical gospels put together (the Italian manuscript has 222 chapters, compared with 16 in Mark), with the bulk being devoted to an account of Jesus' ministry, much of it harmonized from accounts also found in the canonical gospels. In some key respects, it conforms to the Islamic interpretation of Christian origins and contradicts the New Testament teachings of Christianity

Another version of the Barnabas Gospel, discovered a century ago, was written less than 500 years ago, which would post-date Mohammad.
The Barnabas Gospel is one way that Islam intends to cast doubt on Christianity and to deceive people into believing the lies of the false religion of Islam.
If the Barnabas Gospel was written in the 1500's, it has very little worldly credibility in promoting allah as YHVH and Mohammed as the last prophet

It seems laughable that now in 2012 a new version of the Barnabas Gospel has emerged that predates the old version and Mohammed. Even more laughable is that Imams in Iran and Turkey are promoting this as proof positive that Christianity is a false religion as written by a disciple of Christ. They will deceive many.  The Daily Jot

This story demonstrates why nothing an Islamist says can be taken at face value. Every statement and utterance needs to be thoroughly analyzed, or “unpacked”.
Islam is NOT the religion of peace.
